Background: This two day introductory training workshop aims to enhance the practice of health care practitioners (HCP) in physical health practice to address biopsychosocial needs of patients in clinical practice. It is a practical and pragmatic approach to learning useful skills that can be applied by practitioners in their own setting.
Aim of this training: To enable the HCP to assist patients in managing their own psychological problems, using a range of problem solving approaches that include cognitive and behavioural techniques.
Objectives:

To improve the skills of participants in detection of psychological problems of anxiety and depression including risk.

To increase the understanding of the rationale of specific problem solving approaches in their existing assessment and treatment time.

To become more skilled in using cognitive behavioural approaches enabling patients to manage their physical and psychological problems more effectively.

To become more effective in the use of self help materials.

To improve understanding of management options in deciding who, what and when to refer.
