This recently updated comprehensive 2 day course will provide you with the theoretical and practical skills to effectively prescribe exercise to a variety of musculoskeletal conditions through a wide range of
function and ability.
The course tutors have a combined total of more than 50 years experience in using exercise as a primary approach to the clinical management of patients. The course content will include theory and evidence from both exercise physiology and therapy based literature. The large practical component will ensure candidates will leave with an extensive repertoire of material to apply in the clinical setting for both individual and patient classes. The theory modules of this course examine the physiological mechanisms and effects on the neuromusculoskeletal system. Tissue groups including bone, articular cartilage, nerve, muscle and connective tissue are analysed. The rationale for exercise prescription to meet specific goals is discussed. Categories of fitness and criteria for exercise progressions are included.
The practical application of functional exercise prescription, from home programmes to group exercise will be demonstrated. Consideration will be given to specific patient groups, goal setting, pacing principles and
motivational techniques. A variety of group formats will be demonstrated with advice regarding Health & Safety and class taking technique.
The principles covered may be applied to patient groups for orthopaedic rehabilitation, low back pain, degenerative joint disease, sports specific rehabilitation and prophylactic stability programmes.
The practical sessions involve group work in exercise prescription to meet patient needs for given scenarios.
Demonstration of group formats and class-taking techniques will mean course participants are required to take an active part in the practical sessions. Sports gear & trainers required
The course content is approximately 50% practical and 50% theory.
