Course Description

This course aims to provide a framework of assessment skills that can be applied to spinal pain patients. It is aimed at band 5 and newly appointed band 6 physiotherapists. 3rd year Physiotherapy students are also welcome as the course will deliver supporting skills to aid them in their first musculoskeletal roles.

The course will have lecture, practical and case study components which will be delivered in an interactive way to aid learning. It will be supported by a referenced handbook.

Clinical reasoning, critical appraisal and clinical decisions will underpin the 2 days and therefore will offer a framework that can be applied to all aspects of assessment.

The clinical components will be aimed at articular /joint assessment, palpation skills and treatment protocols. There will be close monitoring of handling and feedback throughout. The clinical reasoning sessions will look at relevancy of questions, identification of serious pathology and treatment protocols.
